Webb I. Bailey, PhD

Webb I. Bailey, Vice President and Technical Director at FluoroMed, L.P., in Round Rock Texas, received B.S. and M.S. degrees from Sam Houston State University and a PhD from Texas A&M University under F.A. Cotton. He also was a post-doctoral research associate at The University of Texas at Austin with R.J. Lagow. From 1983 to 1996 he held various research positions at Air Products and Chemicals, Inc. At Air Products he was a member of the Fluorine Technology Center and was involved with projects that targeted the use of fluorocarbons in electronic and medical applications. In 1996 he was instrumental in founding FluoroMed, L.P. which manufactures high purity fluorocarbons that are used primarily in medical applications. At FluoroMed he is responsible for developing partnerships with pharmaceutical companies to find new applications that require fluorochemicals. He also maintains production facilities that are compliant with cGMP quality standards. Additional responsibilities involve coordinating documentation required by FluoroMed customers and the U.S. FDA and foreign regulatory authorities.

Liddell Kam

Liddell Kam received a BS and MS in Physiology from the University of California at Davis in 1975.  Mr. Kam has over 20 years of experience in quality control, quality assurance and quality management in the manufacturing of medical devices, biologics, and pharmaceuticals.  Mr. Kam has 12 years of experience as an FDA field investigator performing GMP audits in the aforementioned industries.  After leaving the FDA in 1990, Mr. Kam was in quality assurance/quality management with such companies as Chiron Corporation and Pfizer.  Mr. Kam assumed the Quality Systems Manager position in 2006.

Tom Bierschenk, PhD

Tom received a B.S. in Chemistry from The University of Texas at Austin in May of 1977. He received his Ph.D. in Inorganic Chemistry also from UT Austin, in July 1982 with his Thesis under Professor Richard J. Lagow. His research involved the synthesis of trifluoromethyl, trifluorosilyl and trifluoromethylthio metal complexes prepared by co-condensing metal atoms and alkyl radicals on cryogenic surfaces.

After working in R&D at Dow Chemical, Tom joined Exfluor Research In 1984, where he has been the creative force in developing novel fluorine syntheses for the US Government and large chemical manufacturers. He has developed products for use in coatings and lubricants throughout the industrial spectrum, and ultimately, Exfluor's own thriving specialty chemical business. Tom brings a wealth of research and development experience to the FluoroMed team.

Tim Juhlke, PhD

Tim received his B.A. with Honors in Chemistry from Wabash College in Crawfordsville, Indiana. and received his Ph.D. in Inorganic Chemistry, from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, Massachusetts in 1980.

Tim also started his career at Dow Chemical as a research scientist, and moved on to Exfluor in 1984. He participates extensively in new product development and implementation of novel manufacturing methods, as a strong logistic partner in the equipment and reaction part of the processes. He is also responsible for the day-to-day business operations of the growing company. Tim contributes to both the process/product development needs and the practical business requirements of FluoroMed

Richard J. Lagow, PhD

One of FluoroMed founders, Dr. Richard J. Lagow, president of Exfluor Research and Professor of Chemistry and Material Science at the University of Texas in Austin, discovered as early as 1966, that elemental fluorine can be tamed and used successfully as a reagent. Dr. Lagow, along with the other founders of FluoroMed, collectively have over 100 years of fluorine expertise, hundreds of publications in scientific journals and are responsible for over 50 U.S. Patents in the field of fluorine chemistry including United States Patent 5,053,536 which has become the industry standard for preparing perfluorocarbons by direct fluorination. Dr Lagow received the prestigious ACS Award for Creative Work in Fluorine Chemistry in 1997.
